Bradenton vs. Anna Maria: Which Side Is Right for You?
By the Vacation Thyme team

The mainland and the island are only minutes apart but feel very different. Here is how to decide where to stay and how to enjoy both.
Anna Maria Island: beaches and small towns
The island is a seven-mile strip of beaches, with Anna Maria, Holmes Beach and Bradenton Beach each offering a different pace. Stay here if you want to walk to the sand, ride the free trolley and spend most of your time outside.

Bradenton: arts, a waterfront and room to breathe
On the mainland, the Bradenton Riverwalk follows the Manatee River for about a mile and a half, with an amphitheater, playgrounds, a splash pad and a skate park. A short distance away, the Village of the Arts fills restored 1920s and 1930s cottages with galleries, studios and cafes, and it hosts a monthly art walk. Downtown also has Old Main Street for dinner and the Bishop Museum of Science and Nature. A weekly public market runs on Saturday mornings from October through May.
Palma Sola: where we are

Coral Cabana is in Palma Sola, a mainland neighborhood. Robinson Preserve, with boardwalks, trails and kayaking, is about 1.5 miles away. Palma Sola Botanical Park is nearby too. From here, the Village of the Arts is about 6 miles, the Riverwalk about 6.5 miles, Cortez fishing village about 7 miles, and Holmes Beach about 6 miles. Anna Maria Island is about 10 minutes away.
How to choose
- Stay on the island if your plan is beach, beach and more beach, and you are happy with a smaller space.
- Stay on the mainland if you want a home with a pool and room for a group, more dining and culture within reach, and an easy drive to the sand.
- Visiting for a bit of both? Base on the mainland, spend your mornings at the beach and your evenings at the pool or on the Riverwalk.
